chrstnsnpt 11-19-2007 03:49 AM Athena was born on fourth of July she is a motley H-Lav-Avery :?: What does that mean? Pat

IzzieMonster 11-19-2007 02:32 PM

Athena is beautiful! I've never seen a snake with that kind of pattern! What kind of snake is it?

chrstnsnpt 11-19-2007 07:26 PM

Athena is a motley cornsnake.

raptor667 11-20-2007 09:51 AM

"H-Lav-Avery Question What does that mean"

right...this was fun to lookup...and i am

H....probabley means one of the snakes parents was Het a normal cornsnake

LAV...short for :- Lavender Corn Snakes contain a light pink background with darker purple gray markings and burgundy eyes or lavender gray blotches on an orangish background. Variation with this same genetic strain are arguably called: mocha, cocoa, and chocolate.

Motley: exhibiting a line of light colored spots or fused blotches

Still it is an unusual and pretty Corn snake...

Hope that helps

chrstnsnpt 11-20-2007 05:33 PM

Thank you for imformation. Now I know her father was normal color. I did see her mother, she was a beautiful Lavender. I fell in love with Athena's color and pattern. I hope that her color will stays the same as she grows. She has just shedded and is 18 inches long. Just started her of fuzzies (mice).

raptor667 12-09-2007 02:27 AM

tmmpin 12-10-2007 05:51 PM

I seen that picture on the other posting, but it still amazes me that the iguana is just sitting there.
Awesome picture!

sombadfish 12-10-2007 06:36 PM

lol thanx i posted it here cuz a few people suggested it. basil is a good girl, although shes entirely miserable right now (shes so packed with eggs her ribs are stickin out funny and if she doesnt lay them soon they have to operate)

tmmpin 12-10-2007 08:06 PM

Let us know how everything goes, if she has them or if they operate.
Best of luck!

sombadfish 12-10-2007 08:25 PM

thank you

tmmpin 12-13-2007 09:36 AM

Any word on if she is going to lay the eggs or have to be operated on?

sombadfish 12-13-2007 07:55 PM

well the vet gave her a shot of oxytocin hoping it would kick her into labor but nothing yet and that was monday :( shes still eating like a cow (she ate all the food i had for her already this week) but is clearly very uncomfortable. that was our last ditch effort, but she didnt give me a time frame all she really said was if she strains but doesnt lay them or if she stops eating. i guess i'll give it a couple more days before i call her but it looks like its gonna be surgery  she has been burrrowing into my bed so i was hoping that was an indication but nothin.

thanks for asking, i'll let you know what happens

This was the only way I could do pics on this computer... hope it works.

raptor667 12-19-2007 08:30 AM

Hi doug, and I quote my son on this..."very pretty". Good looking snake...How old is she/he???

dwg1211 12-19-2007 10:07 AM

thanks! (to you AND your son)... not sure on age, I've owned her for almost a year, and I'm guessing she was at least a year & a half when I got her... so I'd say at least two.. I know she was neglected. A friend of the guy I bought her from said she'd go months without being fed. The guy was afraid to handle her, I could tell. At about 8' I think she's undersized. I like to think I'm her hero. She's quite a sweetie. She seems to love being handled.

dwg1211 12-20-2007 12:20 AM

here are a few more pics...

gandolph 12-20-2007 01:08 AM

this is my now 3 yr old with JR

raptor667 12-20-2007 09:31 AM

I wrote this ages ago...but it bears repeating every now and then.

To post pictures your going to need to host them on a site first.

I use photobucket. It's free and unlimited space and it's easy to use.

all you do once the account is open is click upload on the main screen and select a picture from your harddrive. Once it's uploaded view the images in your album. Next to the image are 4 codes

Email & IM
Direct Link
IMG Code

The IMG code is the one you want, you just click on the box the code is in and it copies the code to your clipboard. Pop on here and right click your mouse and select paste...and thats it. then you can show of your pictures.

Gonna have to do some more Pics of my Royal and put them up.

tmmpin 12-20-2007 09:48 AM

I'll try to post some more pictures when I start moving my snakes into there new room.

dwg1211 12-20-2007 10:27 AM

is it ok to post a link to my pics? I can't really put pics on this hard drive.. OS not compatible with my camera (temporary). I can upload them to my gallery at Kodak, though (by putting them on CD @ walmart), then create an album to share (which comes with a link). I was able to 'save as' to 'my pictures' at some point yesterday, but I forgot how I did it.

raptor667 12-20-2007 12:38 PM

Just been looking at your new Pics Doug......Love the one with the snake going up the stairs...Classic...should have the caption " bugger this I'm going back in the house."....pmsl

Great Pics though....What camera are you using???

tmmpin 12-20-2007 01:13 PM

Doug, if you can get them on a cd you should be able to use photobucket to post your pics then.
But I don't think there is anything wrong with posting a link, just requires another click.

dwg1211 12-20-2007 04:35 PM

using a Sony Cybershot 6 megapixel digital camera... nothing fancy. I like to zoom in on a pic I've taken, then 'trim' & save the zoomed image, which I'll print/post. I'm surprised how well some turn out. Everybody likes the one going up the stairs.. I should have taken more when she got all the way to the door. She had half of her body vertical (climbing the door) swaying side to side.. should have seen the heads turning in the cars going down the street..

dwg1211 12-20-2007 04:38 PM

oh.. & I'm trying to do the photobucket thing, but they text your pin to your cell phone, which I'm not receiving for some reason.. I'll keep trying. I was able to get my pics to this hard drive, though. I have to right click on the slides @ the links I'm posting. lol!

raptor667 12-20-2007 06:26 PM

the phone text thing must be new, haven't heard of it before.

I can imagine the looks you got...pmsl, shame you didn't get her standing up, at least you've got something to aim for next time she's out.

dwg1211 12-20-2007 07:31 PM

WOO-HOO! I did it! thanks raptor! I'm learning something here everyday.. even if it's not snake-related :D

dwg1211 12-20-2007 07:42 PM

just practicing.. I'll post more when I get new ones..

sombadfish 12-21-2007 05:13 AM

love the picture with the kid, although i think any man would cringe ;)

Roy 12-21-2007 06:13 AM

I'll post some new photos too when I get some more film (yeah, haven't gone digital yet) I want to send some new pics of my snakes and a pic of my "Viper" side stand on my bike. 8)

sombadfish 12-21-2007 07:39 PM

you may still use film, but i still use a fully manual 35mm black and white camera and a darkroom... so dont feel too bad :)

tmmpin 12-21-2007 10:30 PM

Wow, back in the day.....
I'm starting to believe I am here with a bunch of old folks. I thought everyone had a digital camera these days.

raptor667 12-22-2007 01:08 AM

My dad always swore by medium format cameras, mainly because he was a pro wedding photographer. The nice men at the camera shop stated that to get the same resolution out of a digital camera it would have to be 128 megapixel camera...and they don't make them ...... yet.

Personally I swear by my Fuji s5500, brilliant camera. Only 4mp but the results speak for themselves.
