Home again at last!
Wow this site has really changed a lot since I was here last. Its all for the good! :)
I know its been awhile since I have been around on a regular basis but hopefully now that we are back home in Findlay..... yes thats right, after moving from OH to NC to MD to PA and now back to Ohio all in the past cpl of years has been a real pain for us and Hawn. All is good though and she is getting all settled back in and now that we have the boa, hawn even has a friend to keep her company! lol
The main reason I am posting this thread is to first of all say Hi everyone! Sure have missed you guys. And.... To ask if anyone has a site I can look at to get some plans for a new enclosure for Hawn. She has out grown the one I built for her when we first got her and since she is close to 13 feet now it has to be really big. I dont really want to have to do this again in another cpl years.
Now you might be asking yourself why is he asking for sites with cage building plans.... well I will tell you. :)
I have been working about 14 hours a day 6 and 7 days a week for the past 4 months and I just havent had the time to sit down and design a new one for her.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo if anyone has any ideas or sites they know of please let me know so I can check them out and hopfully come up with my own design from some of the ideas I get. All of our kids and grand kids will be here for Christmas and I really want to have it completed by then.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this and always know this.... BOATIPS.COM ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back its always great to see a herper come "home". If you look at the post under appropriate tank sizes Denny gives a link to a brilliant site with amazing ideas. I would give it to you but i am computer challenged and dont know how to get out of here without deleting my post.
Regards, Greg

Thom i looked and saw its hope you get some useful ideas.

Thanks Greg, I checked out the link but there are only a fee things listed there.
No biggie I guess i will have to do like I did before and just take the time to design something. At least this time it wont be like the last one. I will be able to use both arms to build it lol

Greg Nel 11-18-2011 08:22 AM

I hope it was not Hawn that incapicitated your arm last time. A Burmese now thats a snake. No play play bites from her!

No it wasnt Hawn. I had to get rotator cup surgery about 2 days before I started building it. But, hawn has biten jenny, It happened a few years back and of course when it happened I posted it here but there was very little damage. Im very very careful when it comes to anyone handling Hawn and I aways make sure we have a big spray bottle of ice water. As soon as I squirted her with that she released jens hand with very little damage. Jen isnt afraid of her at all though. She understands that the reason hawn struck was cuz Jen had just brought home hawns food and even though she hadnt taken it our or even directly touched it, it made Hawn go into feeding mode. All is good now., Hawn is one of te sweethest and docile snakes I have ever seen. A few years back I was having a little trouble with her wanting to strike everything but with the help of everyone on this site we worked it out and all is good.

Thom- My Lucy is a Columbian red-tailed. I love her to death! She is a sweetie. ;)

Greg Nel 11-19-2011 05:23 AM

I am having issues with my female red-tail wanting to strike at everything that moves. This is unusual for her and started recently. Unfortunately she is my biggest boa at around 8 feet so she packs a punch. How did you work through your behaviour modification as i dont want her to end up a "tank" pet.

On a personal note Thom i am on the verge of rotator surgery to my left shoulder. How bad is it and whats the recovery period etc?
