Wow!! What kind of snake is that Roy??

I have never seen a spider eat anything other than an insect ... and a tarantula eat a pinky ... And is that black widow THAT huge or is the snake just that small?

Sparcky 03-08-2012 02:35 AM

Never heard them called redbacks. That looks like a black widow to me. My only question is why didn't you kill it? *lol* I hate spiders

DodoBird27 03-08-2012 04:27 AM

Oh that is nasty O.o Looks like a Black Widow to me too, but that would have to be a tiny snake, widows are only like the size of a coin I thought. Agh, that's gross lol. Did you take those pics yourself Roy?

Not sure what kind of snake it is, but the spider is what you guys call a Black Widow and we call Redbacks over here, they are not a huge spider but I think the snake is small. I didn't take the pick myself, that was sent to me on an email. :D

Thanks Roy.... yeah, I don't do spiders other than a Daddy Long Legs (deadly bite) or a Phidippus (jumping spider). We have a lot of Wolf Spiders and Black Widows here. Both are nasty!

WiccanWolf88 03-08-2012 07:15 PM

I can't see any pictures. :(

WiccanWolf88 03-08-2012 07:15 PM

OKAY! Never mind! I see them now...yuck!

DennyS 03-08-2012 11:43 PM

Wiccan.... what ever am I to do with you?? ROFL

We also have White Tail spiders over here and they are worse than the Redback. They are a small spider with a flesh eating bacteria that causes your flesh to rot away if you are bitten. Some people have had their fingers or limbs amputated from their bites.:(

Wiki has an interesting read on redbacks. They are related to the back widows, being part of the widow family, but they have a red stripe on top of the abdomen as well. I looked up white tails as well and.... damn. Makes me think of a quote I heard once: Australia: Where 90% of the fauna and half the flora tries to murder you *lol*

My fiance spent 2 years there and loved it, I like to tease him about surviving it :P

The white tail sounds like the Brown Recluse spider here.

Lol, survival of the fittest down here. I loved Billy Conley's talk about Australia, "I was warned to look out for the Sea Wasp whenever I was in the water by the beach, I was looking in the sky for this thing that might attack me. Wasn't till later I found out that it was a fu**ing JELLY FISH!" :D
