Default Unexpected aggression

I need advice urgently. Yesterday i put my male and female red-tails into their new tank. Its huge. 6 feet long and 4 feet deep and wide. These two have shared a different tank for around a month and nothing has occurred between them that appeared remotely aggressive. I thought it would be ideal for mating purposes. The female had just shed and was looking good. Within 5 minutes the female grabbed the male and they had a wrestling match in the water before seperating. I immediately removed the male and put him back in his old tank. The only injury i saw was a small scratch on the males head.

What could have caused this? Could it have been the new tank? I am concerned to put them back together.
