Default mites

ok here's the deal guys, the super tiger i bought i found out today has mites. i decided to interact with him some and within a minute i had 2 mites running on my arm, i quickly put him away, now this is the first time ever i had to deal with mites, i have an appoint for him this tuesday, i decided to just take him to the vet and get an ivemectin shot, one shot takes care of it, other then what cleaning i'll need to do in the cage, arg, this just ****s, my ? is, i have him in quarantien in the bedroom next to the bedroom the other reptiles are in. i'm hoping if anyone else here has delt with mites, do you know if mites may leave the cage and find my other snakes? I really am hoping that since i bought him inshed, may have saved from my other reptiles getting these mites, and i mean by this is because of him in shed i have only held him 3 times. with today being the longest i held him. i'll have to decide what i'm going to do with the others, i'll have to watch them like a hawk, and pray i got lucky and only have to treat the one. my fingers are crossed. thanks for any advice

It's possible they could have gotten it. Just check them real good. Mites will attach themselves to you and your clothes and travel that way.

Not to be a downer, but, if one of your critters get them, it's likely that all of them will. :/

ya i'm afraid of that , i'm just hanging on to a little glimmer of hope that having the retic in the other room will spare the rest of them.

I'm fairly sure Brandy has mites as well now I haven't seen any on her, but she's been spending a lot of time in her water bowl .... I don't know where she would have gotten them if she does have them Cause if she has them, she got them well before the reptile show.

i had a vet appointment for tomarrow for zander, but we had gotten enough snow last night to really slow traffic down, i took a gamble and called the vet clinic to see if there was any cancellations and there was so i got in at 10 this morning, i disgussed all my concerns with zander as well as the rest of my collection. they did find 1 mite on zander. right under his chin, they even let me look at it under the microscope, them some ugly bugs, i deffinatly don't want them around. i got sent home with 5 vials of ivermectin and i dilute 1ml ivermectin to 1liter water, i spray this on all the snakes including the beardie this is used for on the snakes as well as cage and furnishings i will need to repeat this ever 4 to 5 days for 4to5 treatments, so much easier than what i thought it would be. well my fingers are crossed that it's going to work, it should. all i have left to do is run to walmart i need to get kitten/puppy flea spray and i'm suppose to use that all around out side of the cage and surrounding areas, carpet- etc

hopefully it's not mites, if you use aspen, wood chips or some kind of bedding, the vet told me they see more snakes with mites that are housed on bedding, i don't know, just what the vet said

OH NO, i don't know if this will be of any help, but my vet said applying a light coating of mineral oil all over the reptile is a very affective way to treat mites as any mite will be drowned out, you will still need to buy pam to spray inside the cage. actually this was the method i was going to do. but the vet said for me to use the ivormectin instead. good luck we both need all the luck we can get right now
