We also have White Tail spiders over here and they are worse than the Redback. They are a small spider with a flesh eating bacteria that causes your flesh to rot away if you are bitten. Some people have had their fingers or limbs amputated from their bites.

Wiki has an interesting read on redbacks. They are related to the back widows, being part of the widow family, but they have a red stripe on top of the abdomen as well. I looked up white tails as well and.... damn. Makes me think of a quote I heard once: Australia: Where 90% of the fauna and half the flora tries to murder you *lol*

My fiance spent 2 years there and loved it, I like to tease him about surviving it :P

The white tail sounds like the Brown Recluse spider here.

Lol, survival of the fittest down here. I loved Billy Conley's talk about Australia, "I was warned to look out for the Sea Wasp whenever I was in the water by the beach, I was looking in the sky for this thing that might attack me. Wasn't till later I found out that it was a fu**ing JELLY FISH!"
